Areal parametric characterisation of ex-service compressor blade leading edges
نویسندگان
چکیده
In-service the degradation of compressor blade leading edges can have a disproportional effect on compressor efficiency. The high surface curvature in this region makes quantifying the surface finish of this sensitive and prominent region difficult. An automated technique that characterises the roughness of the leading edge in terms of areal parameters is presented. A set of ex-service blades of differing sizes are used to demonstrate the procedure. Improved characterisation of this blade region will allow engine companies to better understand where in-service deterioration has the greatest effect and inform them as to how they might minimise the effect. The present work shows that the leading edges of compressor blades exhibit a significantly higher characteristic surface roughness than other blade regions, and the spatial distribution of peaks in this characteristic roughness is detailed. In addition it is shown that peak wear and roughness are not uniformly correlated. & 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. In This paper, a parametric study of compressor performances was performed by streamline curvature method (SLC). Effects of three input parameters in design process, e.g., number of blades, distribution of blade thickness, and blade sweep angels, on the main objective parameters in aerodynamic design, e.g., velocity distribution, efficiency and pressure ratio, has been investigated in the param...
متن کاملDetermination of solution temperature in an ex-service Ni-based turbine blade
It is well-known that the harsh operational conditions of turbine blades lead to a gradual change in the microstructure of underlying Ni-based superalloy of blades. According to this, a rejuvenation process should be conducted on turbine blades superalloys to recover their microstructures. The first and main step of rejuvenation process is the determination of appropriate solution condition in ...

The Axial compressor is an integrated part of a gas turbine. The central part of compressors is its blades. Blade aerodynamic has a significant effect on compressor performance. Because of the adverse pressure gradient in the compressor, any deviation in the blade profile has a significant influence on the flow field as well as the compressor performance. During the manufacturing and operation ...

Failure analysis of fractured components provides some information about the causes and conditions of fracture. Fractography is an indispensable part of the failure analysis as it is usually the only means by which the failure mechanism can be established. By using fractography, some information such as component’s life, values of the stress intensity factor and the applied stress can be calcul...
